Welcome to PYST. Please refer to the printed PYST "Guide to Online Operation" for details on setting up a browser and going online in PYST. Troubleshooting =============== Video, Animation and Sound: If you are experiencing problems with video, animation or sound: 1. Set your monitor graphics mode to display 256 colors in 640x480 resolution. 2. If you're using Win 95 and don't see any animations, you may not have Quicktime for Windows (QTW) installed or could be running the wrong version of QTW. The 32-bit version of PYST (which should be installed with Win 95) requires the 32-bit version OF QTW. If you do not have any version of QTW on your hard drive, install PYST and follow the instructions for the QTW install. Or you can double-click on the file QT32INST.EXE in the QTIME directory on the PYST CD-ROM. If you already have the 16-bit version of QTW installed for compatability with 16-bit programs that require QTW (such as those authored with Macromedia Director 4.0), make sure that it is version 2.1.1 or higher. You can check the version number of your current QTW by going to the Start menu, Programs, QuickTime, and double clicking on Read Me. If you have an earlier version, delete it upon prompting from the 32-bit QTW install. Afterwards, install the 16-bit version of QTW version 2.1.1 by double-clicking on the file QT16INST.EXE in the QTIME directory on the PYST CD-ROM. Do not install an earlier version of QTW over a later version without first uninstalling the later version. 3. For Win 95, open the QuickTime 32 control panel in Start/Settings/ Control Panels; for Windows 3.1 open the QuickTime 32 control panel in Program Manager/Main/Control Panels. Click the "More" button at the bottom right and then the "Audio" tab at the top left. Set the "Actual Hz" to the "Requested Hz", and uncheck the "Automatic Rate Adjustment" box. Then click the "Close" button at the bottom. Going Online: 1. In Windows 3.1, the "Connecting to the Palladium server" message may remain after clicking "OK" to the message "Cannot connect to the Palladium server..." If the Trumpet Winsock (TCPMAN.EXE) task is running, task switch to it and exit TCPMAN.EXE. If not, task switch to the program manager and run TCPMAN.EXE from your browser's directory, or the C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and exit TCPMAN.EXE. (If you see the message "TCPMAN.EXE NOT FOUND," click "OK".) Then task switch back to PYST, if necessary. If this problem persists, WINSOCK.DLL or TCPMAN.EXE may not be loading properly due to insufficient free conventional DOS memory. Exit PYST and remove nonessential TSRs and drivers in the C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and C:\CONFIG.SYS files. Then exit Windows, reboot your PC and rerun Windows and PYST. 2. If launching the Spry Mosiaic browser from PYST displays the message "AWCOMDLG.DLL: The library is too old to be used with this application," delete or rename the AWCOMDLG.DLL file in your C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System directory. Other: 1. Win 95 allows you to run multiple copies of programs. Make sure that you are running only one copy of PYST. 2. Uninstalling PYST will not delete the PYST directory and subdirectories, as well as files in use by the system (such as FILES0.DLL). Please remove these directories and files manually. 3. In some cases, PYST will display a dialog box indicating that QuickTime is required, even though QuickTime is installed on your PC. Click "Continue" if this is the case. If you don't see any video or animation, reinstall QuickTime from the PYST CD-ROM and restart Windows before running PYST. 4. WARNING: The PYST CD-ROM contains data on track 1 and audio on track 2. Some older audio CD players may attempt to play track 1. If you hear noise when you play PYST in your audio CD player, manually skip to track 2.
